The European Commission has launched the new online service “eBusiness Guide for SMEs: eBusiness software and services in the European market”, which can be found on the European Commission’s Europa portal. This service gives enterprises an overview of the eBusiness and information and communication technology (ICT) market and helps them select the proper software products, solutions, and ICT service providers. REACH: National REACH and CLP helpdesks form a common network

A new, joint network of REACH and CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) helpdesks has been formed and is called Help Net. The objectives of the network are to provide consistent, harmonised answers and the best possible advice to industry seeking to fulfil their obligations under the REACH and CLP Regulations. IP: Commission reached agreement with the music industry to establish online music licensing in the internal market

The European Commission has come to an agreement with the music industry to set up a common, non-mandatory and non-exclusive portal of European repertoires as a way to promote cross-border exploitation of music works. REACH: ECHA announces a dedicated “Lead Registrants workshop”

ECHA is currently sending out invitations to Lead Registrants to participate in a dedicated “Lead Registrant Workshop” to be held on 11 September in Brussels. This workshop is specifically aimed at promoting means that will assist Lead Registrants in their SIEF activities. Topics to be discussed in the workshop will cover best practices in establishing and managing SIEFs, the preparation of registration dossiers and specific feedback on information requirements. Lead Registrants are encouraged to inform ECHA of their nomination in order to benefit from this supporting activity. Read more »

IP: Public consultation and Scientific Hearing on Nanotechnologies

Nanotechnologies are interacting with and reinforcing the potential of other technologies like information and communication technologies and biotechnology. In view of the difficulties in predicting potential impacts on health and the environment, the European Commission is continuously monitoring the developments in nanotechnologies and is using the independent EU Scientific Committees to contribute to the assessment of health and environmental risks that Nanotechnologies may pose. REACH: REACH-IT online inquiry submission now available

ECHA has updated REACH-IT by adding an online inquiry submission functionality and a functionality to change legal entity names in the system. Documentation is also published to assist companies with the online inquiry and the change in legal entity name. In addition, REACH-IT can now be accessed by Member States Competent Authorities that fulfill ECHA’s standard security requirements. Read more »

FTA: EU, Korea plan to meet and finalize FTA in May

Korea expects to conclude a free trade deal with the European Union next month after both sides failed to resolve several contentious issues at last week’s minister-level meeting, a high-ranking official said yesterday.

Korean Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon and his EU counterpart Catherine Ashton met in London last week to narrow differences on the issues, which include provisions on a so-called duty drawback scheme and rules of origin, but failed to wrap up the agreement. Read more »
